EFL: 2026/27, Kit Round up: Vol.1

Something new I want to start doing this season is a sem-regular look at the EFL and the Kit Usage within Championship, League One and League Two.

Think of this a lighter version of the Premier League Matchweek Kit Reviews which will be published every month or so (looking at approximately 5 or 6 games per volume). In this first Volume, we are looking at the kits worn between the start of the season (15th August) through to the 5th round of fixtures but to Monday 7th September.

So far this season we have seen:

Championship – 56 Kits
League One – 53 Kits
League Two – 52 Kits

Championship

Kit Overview – 70 out of the 72 Kits have been released, with Birmingham City and Burnley to confirm their 3rd Kits.

Kit Highlights

Burnley are the only team that worn have one a single kit look so far in the Championship so far this season, however they have had a couple of different sponsor looks in that time, after terminating their original sponsorship the day before the League kicked off (having worn it in the Carabao Cup the week before). They announced their new sponsor Vertu Motors. It appears the first outing a patch was used to cover the original sponsor before newly printed shirts were produced, the club also offered to replace or refund supporters with new shirts.

Charlton Athletic visited local rivals West Ham United on 22nd August and used an interesting Kit “Mash Up”, they wore their Away Kit for the first time but used black socks to complete the look, these socks are not part of any outfield kit this season and appear to Reebok teamwear socks.

Queen’s Park Rangers wore their 3rd Kit at Home against Middlesbrough on 5th Septmeber, this was for an initative with their sponsor and Kit Aid where supporters could trade in old shirts for their all black 3rd shirt for free with the old shirts being used by Kit Aid by recycling them across the world.

League One – Kit Overview

Kit Overview – 67 Kits out of 72 released, with 5 3rd Teams still waiting to launch 3rd Kits.

Kit Highlights

Bromley gave us a wonderful mash up in their game against Sheffield Wednesday on 29th August, using their Away shirt with Home shorts and socks, this look is one of my favoruite kit looks in football, red / black stripes with white shorts and socks.

Leyton Orient have used the most kit looks in EFL so far this season, with 4 different variations used in their opening 5 games, with Home, Away and 3rd kits being used, the 4th look was a mash up of Away and 3rd socks in their game against Luton Town on 4th September.

Bradford City and Leicester City remain the only teams in League One to use a single kit (Home) look so far this season.

League Two

Kit Overview – 64 Kits out 72 released. Accrington Stanley to confirm if they are also using last season’s 3rd kit or launching a new Away. 7 other teams to confirm their 3rd Kit.

Kit Highlights

Tranmere Rovers gave us the rare sight nowadays of an outfield player in goal but due to them playing in a mash up of their Away with Home shorts against Port Vale on 22nd August it meant that we saw three different kit elements in play, with Goalkeeper Shirt, Home Shorts and Away socks being used.

One to keep an eye on this season is Shrewsbury Town, who for their 140th Anniversary are wearing Navy Blue kit as their home kit, with their traditiona amber and blue being used as their Away Kit this season…

Three teams, Bristol Rovers, Chesterfield and Fleetwood Town remaining the only teams to wore a single kit look so far this season.
