Premier League: Matchweek 26 Kit Review

The Premier League is now two thirds way through the season, with teams now playing a maximum of 12 games more this season. These were the reverse fixtures from this weekend were across two different Matchweeks, with seven games from – Matchweek 13 and three games from Matchweek 11 there was plenty to talk about from this weekend’s fixtures.

Matchweek 26 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 95 (+1 New Kits this Matchweek)

New Kits this Matchweek

There was just the one new kit look this weekend.

Manchester United wore a classic change looks of their Home Kit with alternative black socks for the first time this season.

Kit Highlights

Manchester United wore their 7th Kit Variation of the season, with their 3rd different Home Kit look now used, this was the first time they had worn a new look since Matchweek 12.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have worn alternative shorts for four times in their last six games, all of these four games have been away from home and have not worn their Home Kit with black shorts in an away game since Vítor Pereira took over on 19th December, is this an initiative from the Manager?

My favourite Kit Match Up of this Matchweek was the game between Aston Villa and Chelsea, The Villa Kit is one of my favourite this season and although Chelsea did go for alternative socks, their Away Kit is a nice clean look, for a nice match up.

Overall we have seen 16 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 1 3rd Kit

There were three variation seen over these fixtures.

  • Manchester United – Home with alternative black socks
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers – Home with alternative “Old Gold” shorts, 5th time used

What was likely to be the final Nike Premier League Ball made it’s debut in the midweek fixture between Aston Villa and Liverpool, celebrating 25 years of Nike supplying the official footballs of the Premier League by paying homage to the Total 90 ball… with rumours of Nike 3rd Kits next season being based on Total 90 Kits, 2025 is the year of Total 90!

The Premier League’s first round of fixtures of 2025 have been completed and this is also the first round of fixtures with teams playing each other again this season, these were the reverse fixtures from Matchweek 3.

Newcastle United wore their Away Kit with alternative white shorts

Leicester City wore their Away Kit for the first time this season.

Nottingham Forest wear another team to use their Away Kit for the first team in Matchweek 20!

Two new Goalkeeper Kit seen this weekend:

  • Manchester United – Green Adidas Trefoil Template with default socks
  • Nottingham Forest – Red Adidas Template

Kit Highlights

Newcastle United wore their 8th Kit Variation of the season, the most in the Premier League so far in 2024 / 25. This was their 3rd different Away Kit look.

Manchester United wore their 7th different Goalkeeper Kit look of the season (20 games), this was due to the default Adidas Trefoil socks being worn with the kit, in it’s previous use it was worn with standard green template socks!

Everton were the only Away team to where their Home Kit this weekend, the nine other teams in change kits!

With Leicester City and Nottingham Forest wearing their Away Kits for the first time, that leaves three teams who are yet to use one of their three designated Kits from this season in Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion (3rd), Chelsea (3rd) and Fulham (3rd).

Nottingham Forest have now worn four different kit variations in their last four games, with 3rd, Home, Home with red shorts and Away being worn, and this also goes back to five in six games with all sky blue 3rd look being used in the game at Manchester United.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, The Spurs home kit has really grown on me this season and Newcastle in their wonderful Away kit is always a good thing for me!

Overall we have seen 11 Home Kits, 5 Away Kits and 4 3rd Kits

There were four variations seen over these fixtures.

  • Newcastle United – Away with Alternative white shorts
  • Chelsea – Away with alternative socks, 4th time used

The Premier League Boxing Day Fixtures are one of the highlights of the season, with all teams playing over two days after Christmas, lets take a deeper look into the kits worn in these games.

There were two new Kit looks this Matchweek..

Everton wore alternative yellow socks with their Away Kit

West Ham United wore their Away in it’s default all black look for the first time.

Two new Goalkeeper Kits seen this weekend:

  • Aston Villa – Yellow Adidas Template
  • Manchester United – Black Adidas Trefoil Template

Kit Highlights

Manchester United have now worn 6 different Goalkeeper Kit looks this season, this includes 3 different Adidas Trefoil looks with their 3rd Kit.

Aston Villa were another team to wear a new goalkeeper kit, they used the yellow version of the current Adidas Template, their 4th different version and they have also each of these kits in the last 4 games!

West Ham United and Everton now have worn 6 Kit variations each, both joint 2nd Highest in Premier League so far this season!

Only four teams have worn the same kit in their last 2 games, Aston Villa Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Liverpool have worn their Home Kit in previous 2 outings!

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Manchester City and Everton, contrasting socks is always a winner in my eyes, so both teams in this look makes this Kit Geek very happy!

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits, 4 Away Kits and 2 3rd Kits

There were three variations seen over these fixtures, one Home, one Away and one 3rd!

Premier League: Matchweek 16 Kit Review

The Premier League has now completed Matchweek 16 and we are a week away from the start of Christmas Period of games and the halfway point of the season! Here is our regular look at the Kits worn in this weekend.

Matchweek 16 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 77 (+4 Kits this Matchweek)

New Kits this Matchweek

There were four new Kit looks this Matchweek..

Aston Villa wore their 3rd Kit for the first time in Premier League this season, although they did use alternative white socks at Nottingham Forest. This is their 7th different kit variation of the season, the highest now in the League.

Crystal Palace used their 3rd Kit for the first time at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Tottenham Hotspur used alternative navy socks with their Away Kit, based on the white trim my guess would be these are alternative Home socks but created an interesting look at Southampton!

West Ham United were another team to change their socks up, this time with their 3rd Kit which they combined with Home socks.

Kit Highlights

Everton wore alternative blue shorts to create all blue look, this was 3rd time this look was used in 5 games.

Brentford lost for the first time this season in their Home Kit, the 10th game they have worn it but their loss at Chelsea was the first!

West Ham United wore Home socks with their 3rd Kit, this means they have worn these socks with all three kits this season in the League.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the Manchester Derby, tri-colour kits are one of my favourite kit things, so with Manchester City’s home already in this look and the Manchester United going for alternative shorts and socks, it was always going to be a winner in my eyes!

Overall we have seen 16 Home Kits, 1 Away Kit and 3 3rd Kits

There were five variations seen over these fixtures.

  • Everton – Home Kit in All Blue, 3rd time used this season
  • Aston Villa – 3rd Kit with alternative white socks

  • West Ham United – 3rd with Home socks

Premier League: Matchweek 9 Kit Review

The Premier League has now completed Matchweek 9, just under a quarter of the way through the season and this weekend also saw the return of Friday Night Football for the first time since Matchweek 1.

There were five new Kit looks this Matchweek..

AFC Bournemouth used their 3rd Kit for the first time this season at Aston Villa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers wore a change kit in The Premier League for the first time this season, wearing their Away kit at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Fulham wore alternative black socks with their Home Kit for the first different variation of their Home kit in 24/25.

Manchester United wore their 3rd Kit in it’s 3rd different look of the season, this time with alternative charcoal socks to match the shorts.

Liverpool wore their Away kit for the first time in the League this season having previously worn it in the Champions League.

The two new goalkeeper kits on show

  • Aston Villa – Blue Adidas Template
  • Manchester United – Green Adidas Trefoil

Kit Highlights

This weekend was the first use of the Premier League “winter ball”, the yellow version of the Nike ball, it was also the first weekend the teams donned the “Poppy” on their shirts, which will be auctioned off for relevant charities by the clubs.

Manchester United have now worn 5 different Kit Variations in just 9 games, wearing a different Kit look in each of their 5 away games, they are also keeping this up with their Goalkeeper Kits, wearing 5 different Goalkeeper kits including two version of the “Adidas Trefoil” template, but yet still to wear the black version they are selling!

EDIT: Another thing to notice here is that the socks with this keeper kit are not matching, these appear to be the standard green Adidas socks (notice the logo and the lime green detailing) rather than the Adidas Originals logo, which would likely be in white. (Thanks to Darren who called this out in the comments below).

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between West Ham United and Manchester United, I do enjoy seeing this Manchester United 3rd kit in action, and with the alternative socks this weekend might just be my favourite look… paired with a classic West Ham look, just a nice Kit Match up!

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 3 3rd Kits

There were two variations seen this weekend

  • Fulham – Home, alternative black socks
  • Manchester United – 3rd, alternative charcoal socks

Arsenal are the next team to launch their Originals collection for this season after Manchester United and Newcastle United, the collection has a shirt that is being referred a “retro third” collection, which is based on the Home Shirt used between 1991 and 1993 but in navy / lilac sleeves.

It could be argued “Tailored by Umbro” has made a return, with a minor update to Michail Antonio’s West Ham United Home shirt, the round collar has been adapted by the manufacturer after the player was cutting the collar for comfort.

The Premier League hits Matchweek 6 and all teams have played home and away three times now, so it is time to take a deeper look into the kits worn this weekend.

There were three new Kits seen this Matchweek..

Manchester City used alternative white socks for the first time this season in the League.

West Ham United another team in a variation this week, this one was their first outing in their Away Kit but was used with White (Home) Socks.

Aston Villa used their Away Kit for the second time in this season but this was the first in it’s default look.

The 3 new goalkeeper kits on show and 2 of them from The Merseyside Clubs.

  • Everton – Pink
  • Liverpool – Purple
  • AFC Bournemouth – White

Kit Highlights

West Ham United have become the first team to wear 4 Kit Variations this season, with Away used this weekend, 2 Home Kit looks and a 3rd Kit appearance, making it 4 Kits in 6 Games!

Everton and Jordan Pickford wore an alternative goalkeeper kit for the first time this season, with the use of their 3rd choice pink keeper’s kit against Crystal Palace having worn a green kit for the previous 5 games.

There are 6 Teams that have worn change kits in all of their Away games this season, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle United and Southampton, with Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton wearing just their Away Kits in these games!

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Brentford and West Ham United, I do love a Kit Mash up, and seeing different elements of kits being used together, so seeing the Black Away Shirt and Shorts paired with Home Socks was always going to be popular with me, matched against the Brentford Kit just seemed to work well!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits and 5 Away Kits.

A couple of variations seen this weekend, both mentioned above as they used for the first time

  • Manchester City – Home with Alternative White Socks
  • West Ham United – Away with Home Socks (white)

Kit News

Manchester United have launched their “George Best” Collection, inspired by their iconic player and winner of Ballon d’Or in 1968 and European Cup in the same year, the collection takes influence for the kit worn in that final at Wembley and includes a tracksuit jacket, trousers and a long sleeve shirt containing Best’s signature and the number 7 in the same style used on those kits.

Another team in the Adidas family also released a retro range this week, with Newcastle United launching of their “Originals” range. The shirt is a cracker, many fans and kit lovers expressing their preference to this shirt of the current Home Shirt.

Chelsea are rumoured to be close to reaching an agreement for their front of shirt sponsorship, the club are talks with three major Airlines, belived to be Qatar Airways, Riyahd Air and Turkish Airlines, with the deal expected to be annouced in the coming weeks. I would expect the new shirt sponsor will be debuted after the next International Break in October.

The Premier League is now in full swing for the 2024/25 Season and the first European Club games have happened in the last week, so it is time to take a more in depth look at the Kits worn this weekend.

Matchweek 5 Fixtures

There were 2 new Kits seen this Matchweek..

Chelsea wore their Away Kit in it’s default look with Blue Socks for the first time this season at West Ham United

Manchester United wore their 3rd Kit, this was with alternative shorts and was the first “Trefoil” Adidas Logo to be used since the 1992/93 Season (Arsenal Away).

There was also 4 new Goalkeeper Kits on show this weekend

  • Manchester United – Fluro Yellow
  • Tottenham Hotspur – Orange
  • West Ham United – Pink
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers – Pink

Kit Highlights

Manchester United have now worn 4 different Goalkeeper Kits in their opening 5 games of the season, with this “Fluorescent Yellow” kit, this was an unexpected Kit, with a Black version of this kit being advertised with the 3rd Kit (Trefoil Logo), so likely we will see a 5th version at some point this season!

Interesting choice of Kit by Brentford for their visit to Tottenham Hotspur, their 3rd navy sleeves as well as Spurs having Navy Sleeves, deemed as no clash… maybe with VAR in place sleeve clashes are less of issue when it comes to team’s kits!

Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are still the two teams who have worn just one kit this season so far, Wolves did wear an alternative Goalkeeper Kit this week for the first time though!

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Crystal Palace and Manchester United, the two kits work so well together, one full of design detail and one simple in it’s aesthetic, so a great combo in my view.

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits and 3 Away and 3 3rd Kits in action.

Again, variations are not really something we have seen so far this season, with just one this week and only the 3rd of the season so far!

  • Manchester United – 3rd with “off” white shorts

The Premier League is back after the first International Break of the season and Matchweek 4 is completed, let’s take some time to look into the Kits worn this weekend!

Matchweek 4 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

There were 7 new Kits seen this Matchweek..

Manchester United were in a change kit for the first time this season, using their Away Kit.

Leicester City in their 3rd Kit.

Brentford in their 3rd Kit.

Everton in their 3rd Kit.

Newcastle United in the Away Kit.

Alternative socks for both West Ham (Home Kit) and Chelsea (Away Kit) both in alternative looks for the first time.

There was also 6 new Goalkeeper Kits on show this weekend

  • Arsenal – Pink
  • AFC Bournemouth – Blue
  • Leicester City – Black
  • Manchester City – Light Orange
  • Manchester United – Green
  • Southampton – Green

Kit Highlights

For the first time in 38 years Arsenal were forced to wear a change kit in The North London Derby againt Tottenham Hotspur, this was due to PGMOL ruling that there was too much white in the Arsenal home kit, Arsenal reportedly offered to wear alternative red shorts but their offer was rejected, so it was their Away Kit that was used…!

West Ham were the first team this season to use a Kit Variation, with alternative blue socks with their Home Kit, this was also the only Home Shirt used by an Away team this Matchweek.

This was soon followed by Chelsea, in alternative socks with their Away kit.

There just 2 teams that have only 1 kit so far this season – Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Wolves also just wearing the 1 Goalkeeper as well.

Brentford and Everton are the first team to wear Home, Away and 3rd Kits this season in their opening 4 games.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Manchester City and Brentford, the two kits working well together to give a nice overall look on the pitch.

Manchester City have release their much rumoured “4th” Kit… making it the 61st Kit of the Premier League this season, described as the below on the Manchester City website.

“Marking 30 years since the release of the album Definitely Maybe, it’s definitely City. Co-designed by lifelong Man City fan Noel Gallagher, this collection pays homage to the album that defined an era. Featuring designs inspired by the iconic Oasis album cover”

I managed to pop into the Puma store on Carnaby Street, London on the day of it’s launch to see it in person, whether the team needs a 4th Kit is another debate, but as a Kit and Kit Collection this does look great.

This may not be the last 4th Kit we see, as there is still talk of either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur launching a 4th Shirt this season linked with Air Jordan Brand.

The final two teams to release their 3rd Kits this season, did so this week…

Aston Villa, have gone for “Midnight Blue” as their alternative change kit, giving a nice balance between their three kits.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have gone for a more flamboyant colour, “Hyper Voilet” is its description, it’s bold choice to used and will be interesting to see in action.

Here we go again…

The 2024 / 25 Premier League Season has now kicked off and just like last season, I will be taking a more in depth look into the Kits each Matchweek.

We have seen 53 out of 60 Kits released so far… with just 7 Teams left to release their 3rd Kits.

There was just the one “Kit Mash” up on show, Aston Villa who launched their Away Kit the day before their game at West Ham, went with pairing their new kit with their Home Socks to avoid a clash with West Ham who are in White Shorts and Socks this season.

Chelsea started their second consecutive season with no front of shirt sponsor, no agreement was in place for the deadline to add a sponsor, so just as last season it will be a few weeks before we see any changes here.

Arsenal started the season in an unexpected Goalkeeper Kit, having previously advised that they would use the yellow and pink versions of the current Adidas Tiro 24 template, as well as the plain Black Adidas Orginals shirt as a 3rd Option, it was the Black Tiro 24 that was used in the opening game… could be an interesting season for Keeper Kits at The Emirates, with rumours of a 5th keeper look potentially being used this season.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Manchester United and Fulham, and its mainly related to those shorts… their design and look is one of my favourite kit details of this season, so seeing two team in this look was great to see in action in the opening game of the season.

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits and 5 Away, with no 3rd Kits in action.

Premier League: Top Trumps 2023/24

I like to look at Football Kits and Kit Stats in many ways, one way that I wanted to revisist for the previous seasons was a Top Trump format.

So for those of a certain age will know all about Top Trumps, so for this set I have looked at the kits of each of the 20 Premier League Teams, Home, Away and Third kits and stats around these kits, the stats I have picked are the following:

  • League Games Worn – How many league games was the kit (and variations) worn
  • Variations of Kit – The number of variations of that kit were worn
  • Games Won – Number of games won wearing the kit(s)
  • Points Won – Number of points won wearing the kit(s)
  • Points per game – The average number of points per game (total points / games worn) per kit

I have highlighted the “Top Trump” in each section in “Gold and Black”.

There they are, 60 Top Trump cards… any surprises there, Wolverhampton Wanderers points per game in their change kits, Tottenham Hotspur scoring 54 points in their home kit, Luton Town’s 4 variations of their 3rd Kit?

What would you consider as the overall “Top Trump” card, Manchester City Home Kit or something else?
