Premier League: Matchweek 17 Kit Review

The Christmas fixtures are now in full swing with Matchweek 17 being completed over this weekend, however due to the abandonment of the game between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town there was only nine completed fixtures.

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we now have all 60 shirts released… still waiting for confirmation of the shorts that will be used with Luton Town’s 3rd.

Matchweek 17 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 81 (No Change from Matchweek 16)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 55 (+1 from Matchweek 16)

New Kits this Matchweek

There were no new outfield kits on show this week, this is the first time this season that we have had no new kit looks in a Matchweek.

However, there was one new Goalkeeper kit, with Brighton & Hove Albion using the yellow version of their goalkeeper kit template (last season’s Nike Keeper Template), which also means the three goalkeeper kits used by Brighton this season are the same three kits used last season by the club (Black / Orange / Yellow).

Kit Highlights

Sheffield United wore their home kit away from Brammall Lane for the first time this season when they visited Chelsea on 16th December.

There were 15 Teams in their default Home Kit this matchweek, this is the highest number of default Home Kits on show in one week this season so far and with the abandoned game between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town, this meant only three teams were in change kits this weekend…. Fulham (Away Kit), Aston Villa (3rd Kit), Manchester United (3rd Kit / Alternative Socks).

My favourite Kit Match Up of this week was at Anfield, with Liverpool playing Manchester United, with an all red versus all white look, there is something very classic looking about this Manchester United kit and although being used with alternative white socks, the overall match up looks somewhat classic in terms of colours and shirt design!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits, 1 Away Kit and 2 3rd kits in action in this Matchweek (one match abandoned)

There were just the one Kit Variation on show this week…

  • Manchester United in their 3rd Kit with alternative white socks, creating an All White look. 2nd time this has been used this season.

Kit Grid – Up to 18th December

Kit News

We wish Tom Lockyear all the best in his recovery from his cardic arrest in the game between AFC Bouremouth and Luton Town.

The Premier League fixture will come thick and fast over the fesitve period, we will try and keep on top of things at Kit Geek Towers!

Premier League: Matchweek 13 Kit Review

The Premier League returns after the third International Break of the season and this weekend kicks off a run of 8 Matchweeks between now and the end of 2023… so strap yourselves in as we take a more detailed look into the kits worn this weekend!

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we now have all 60 shirts released… still waiting for confirmation of the shorts that will be used with Luton Town’s 3rd.

Matchweek 13 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 75 (+2 from Matchweek 12)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 53 (No Change from Matchweek 12)

New Kits this Matchweek

The new kit looks are still trickling in, with two new kits variations on show this week, both variations of Home Kits.

Aston Villa in their third different Home Kit look this season, using alternative claret shorts and socks for their visit to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United used their home kit with alternative black shorts and Teamwear (2023 version) socks for the first time, the second Red / Black / Black look of the season but first with these socks.

Kit Highlights

“Sock Watch”, with Manchester United going for the Teamwear socks with the new Adidas logo this week but with alternative Black shorts meant a new kit variation (see above), this is the 6th different Home Kit look of the season for Manchester United and the 9th in total in just 13 games!

Aston Villa have now worn six different kit variaions so far this season, 2nd highest in the Premier League… they have used 2 Home Kits, 2 Away and 3rd kit in the first 13 games of the season, yet to wear their default Home Kit look on the road this season.

AFC Bournemouth played in a change kit for the first time in eight games against Sheffield United, which was almost 3 months ago on September 2nd against Brentford.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Brentford and Arsenal, a nice balance between the two kits and both using black shorts which adds to the aesthetic to me, plus the Arsenal away kit keeps growing on me, I really do like seeing it in action!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 16 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and again just the 1 3rd kits in action in this Matchweek.

However there was four variations on show, all home kits..!

  • Chelsea with all blue look for the 2nd time this season
  • Aston Villa with alternative claret shorts and socks (again mentioned above)
  • Manchester United with black shorts and Teamwear (new Adidas Logo) black socks (as mentioned above)
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers used their alternative shorts to create an all “Old Gold” look

Kit Grid – Up to 27th November

Kit News

It is a quiet week on the Premier League Kit News front over the last few weeks.

We are starting to see some leaks for next season’s kits hitting Social Media, I am not one to share until we have offical launch pictures however there are some interesting colour / crest choices for clubs if the leaks are accurate.

That wraps up Matchweek 13 and watch this space for future Premier League Kit Reviews.

Premier League: Matchweek 3 Kit Review

We are back with all 20 teams in action this weekend and there is plenty to talk about in terms of the kits on show and kit usage this matchweek.

This is the third weekly review of the kits in the Premier League, you can find last week’s here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we have seen 54 out of the 60 Kits released so far…

Matchweek 3 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 37 (+4 from Matchweek 2)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 35 (+6 from Matchweek 2)

New Kits this Matchweek

We are now hitting the 3rd Matchweek of the season, so the new kits on show are starting to slow up this week

Luton Town – Away Kit with Navy socks (from yet to be released 3rd Kit??)

Manchester United – Home Kit with Teamwear Black socks (we’ll get to this….)

Wolverhampton Wanderers – Away Kit

Aston Villa – Away Kit with alternative white shorts (not home shorts)

6 New Goalkeeper Kits:

  • Arsenal (Blue)
  • Crystal Palace (Green)
  • Fulham (Green)
  • Luton Town (Pink)
  • Manchester City (Fluro Yellow / Green)
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers (Yellow)

Kit Highlights

So, there is only one place to start… Manchester United….

Another Premier League season and yet another Manchester United sock drama. So after using their default home socks in their opening two games, which are black with the similar pattern as seen in the home shirt, this weekend’s home game with Nottingham Forest saw The Red Devils in plain Black Adidas Teamwear socks, is it supply issues or something else, regarding Premier not “signing off” on the sock design as I saw mentioned on Social Media this weekend, only time will tell but if we can get the default socks back that would be great in my humble opionion, they worked really well with the kit and help elevate the overall design!

See the difference below…

The result of this means its 3 different kit looks in 3 games of Manchester United, only matched by Aston Villa, who have worn 2 home kit looks and now an away kit with alternative white shorts (including the monochorm Club Crest).

There is another team that has used 3 different kits in their opening 3 games and that is Wolverhampton Wanderers and their use of Goalkeeper kits, using all 3 already this season…

My favourite kit match up of the weekend was the game between Brentford and Crystal Palace. Palace in their Black 3rd kit with away socks for the second time this season and balance of red / white / black of Brentford gave a nice overall kit match up in my eyes!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits, 4 Away Kits and again just the one 3rd kit used this weekend but plenty of variations on show with 4 teams moving from default looks:

  • Home, Manchester United
  • Away, Aston Villa and Luton Town
  • 3rd, Crystal Palace

Kit Grid – Up to 28th August

Kit News

There was just the one kit launch this week, with Aston Villa releasing their 3rd kit for this season on Friday 25th August.

I will be back again next week with Matchweek 4’s Kit Review, what we will see in the final week of games before the first International Break of the season!

Premier League: Matchweek 1 Kit Review

And we are off….

The 2023 / 24 Premier League Season has now kicked off and as mentioned here I will be taking a more in depth look into the Kits each Matchweek from my usual update via Social Media.

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we have seen 50 out of the 60 Kits released so far…

Matchweek 1 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 20
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 20

New Kits this Matchweek

Of course all kits this week are being used for the first time this season, more details will appear in this section as we move through the season and new kit looks / variations are used.

Kit Highlights

The New Premier League Namesets got their first full outings and visually worked well I believe, they certainly appeared to be a lot bigger and clearer than their predecessors, so a thumbs up from me on those changes (apart from the bespoke colours, I would still love to see more colour options available to teams).

There were two Kit Mash ups used in the opening weekend of fixtures…

Firstly Crystal Palace who combined their 3rd Kit with their white Away Kit Socks, this look giving two shades of Blue on the kit, with the lighter shade of blue being used with the Away Kit this season.

The second Mash Up was with Tottenham Hotspur, who not only launched their beautiful Navy Blue Away Kit this weekend, they then used it at Brentford with Home Socks (White)

There was a potentially a third Kit Mash Up used with Aston Villa using alternative “Claret” Socks to their trip to Newcastle United, however we do not know what their 3rd kit looks like, so not sure if this is a mash up or just use of alternative home socks, my feeling is this will be an alternative sock but time will tell!

Some more investigation is needed on Brighton & Hove Albion’s Goalkeeper Kit, the black kit worn by Jason Steele this weekend which appears to be same black kit used in the 2022/23 Season, its been difficult to get a clear image of the kit to be 100% certain… so watch this space about this one!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits (12 default and 1 variations), 4 Away Kits (3 default and 1 variation) and just the one 3rd kit used in these opening games

Kit Grid – Up to 15th August

Kit News

In the coming week we expect to see the lauch of Arsenal’s 3rd Kit which has been well documented as a return to the green / navy sleeves, which is rumoured to launched on Friday 18th August 2023.

That is this Premier League Matchweek Kit Review, 10 games down… 370 to go!!
