Following on from my reference article last season, which you can find here. I thought it was time to get update one for the forthcoming season.
Overview of Kit Manufacturers
11 Clubs in total have change their Kit Manufacturer for the start of the 2025 / 26 Season.
Breakdown per Manufacturer (In good old fashioned League Ladders Style)!
Puma– 18 Teams (+1 Team from 24 / 25), 1 new club (Crewe A) and Oldham A being promoted to EFL, 1 left (Barnsley)
Macron – 17 Teams (Same Number of Teams)
Adidas– 12 Teams (+1 Team), 1 New Club (Liverpool)
Errea– 6 Teams (same number) 1 New Club (Mansfield T), 1 left (Middlesbrough)
Castore– 5 Teams (-1 Team) 2 new clubs (Middlesbrough / Huddersfield T), 3 have left (Charlton A, Mansfield T, MK Dons)
Nike – 5Teams (-1 Team) 1 left (Liverpool)
Umbro – 5 Teams (-5 Teams) 4 teams left (Brentford, Luton T, Huddersfield T, AFC Wimbledon) Carlisle United relegated to National League
Oxen – 4 Teams (+1 Team) 1 New Club (Barnsley)
Hummel – 3 Teams (Same Teams)
Joma– 3 Teams (+1 Team) 1 New Club (Brentford)
New Balance– 2 Teams (Same Teams)
Reebok – 2 Teams, 2 New Clubs (Charlton A, MK Dons)
That Leaves ten teams this season that are the only club that their manufacturer supplies.
Kappa – Hull City (Championship)
Kelme – Watford (Championship)
Lotto – AFC Wimbledon (League One)
Mills – Tranmere Rovers (League Two)
O’Neills – Bristol City (Championship)
Reflo – Luton Town (League One)
Stanno – Barnet (League Two)
SUDU – Wolverhampton Wanderers (Premier League)
TAG – Burton Albion (League One)
VX3 – Newport County (League Two)
So there we have it, 92 Team, 22 manufacturers, 2 more than last season with four new suppliers in Lotto, Reebok, Reflo and Stanno joining the ranks this season but we have lost The Terrace after Morecambe’s relegation and FBT with Crewe Alexander moving to Puma.
Any surprises there, any thoughts and comments please let me know over at my Socials…
As we approach the end of June, teams are now starting to kick off their pre-season training and of the course the Club World Cup is still in full swing with the completion of the group stages, I thought it was time to dust off The Heat Press and take a look at some new kits….
To pass these summer weeks I will take a weekly (or maybe more) look at the Kits launched across the English Leagues and beyond, the discussion points and anything else Kit Related that comes up. I will only share those kits that have been officially released, as there are plenty of leaks that do the rounds but we will keep this official.
You will also find my Kit Overview illustrations for each of the four divisions.
Premier League – 11 / 60 Kits
New Kits:
Everton, Home: The first kit to be worn at The Hill Dickinson Stadium, which takes inspiration from the new stadium’s location on the banks of the River Mersey and shows a ‘wave’ that flows throughout the shirt. Blue socks will also return as first choice colour, the first time since 2014 / 15 season, although they were navy blue, this is time royal blue socks will be used in the kit’s default look since 2012 / 13.
Tottenham Hotspur, Away: Tottenham Hotspur have followed up their Home Kit, by launching their Away Kit, this is all black kit with a subtle checked pattern within both the shirt and shorts, the kit is being labeled as “In Darkness we Dare” which is a spin on the club’s motto “To do is to dare”. The first team in Premier League to launch Home and Away kits.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Home: The second season with Sudu as manufacturer and it’s another classic looking Wolves kit, simple but effective, I like that they keep the Home Kits simple and it works well in my eyes, nice collar too and detailing within the shirt.
Championship – 6 / 72 Kits
New Kits:
Preston North End, Away: A fairly standard offering from Castore in terms of the Home Kit, some nice details within the shirt which take inspiration from Deepdale. The talking point here is the sponsor, Spud Bros… but from my point of view, they are local company supporting their local team, so fair play to them, much more appealing than a betting company, so a win from this Kit Geek.
Millwall, Home: If you follow me on Social Media you will know that I’m a Millwall fan, so been waiting for this one, last season’s Home Kit was wonderful, one of my favourite Millwall kits of all time, so any kit this season will have some big shoes to fill in my eyes…! And they have delivered, a simple and clean look, something classical about this shirt with it’s central placement of logos, one happy Millwall Fan here.
West Bromwich Albion, Home: Macron 2nd season with WBA, an interesting collar and some additional detailing in the socks, which also contain a single stripe.
League One – 14 / 72 Kits
New Kits:
Bradford City, Away: Bradford City launched their new Away Kit at the end of last week, and its light, almost metallic all blue look on the road this season, paired with a Pink 3rd Kit which was released at the end of last season! This kit also carries “UK City of Culture” detail on this shirt.
Northampton Town, 3rd Kit: Its the 3rd Kit first up for Northampton Town and another almost metallic futuristic look in League One, with aqua green, gray kit and detailed with neon yellow… a nice look, that works well for me.
Cardiff City, Home: New Balance remains as Cardiff’s kit manufacturer for a 4th season, and this season will see the club play in pinstripes with white shorts and blue socks!
League Two – 18 / 72 Kits
New Kits:
Shrewsbury Town, Home: A nice looking kit, based on one worn by the club between 1983 and 1985. Some nice details within the shirt and the red trim is something that I particularly like and works for me. Oxen delivering some nice designs again.
Cambridge United, Away: Umbro and Cambridge United are a partnership that have consistently delivered and this season looks to continue that trend, with new Home Kit launched last week and the Away proving to be a classic look that will work perfectly as a change kit!
Cambridge United, 3rd: The full kit set is completed for Cambridge, with this black kit which is paired with gold shorts and black socks, a nice balance from Home Kit.
This week’s Kit News…..
Chelsea wore their 2025 / 26 Away Kit for the first time in the Club World Cup Group Game against ES Tunis. The Kit was worn with alternative socks, rather than the Green default socks.
It appears the Brentford x Joma deal is confirmed, with the launch of their training range this week.
Barnsley have confirmed they are moving away from Puma have signed a new Kit deal with Oxen, who now will supply at least three teams in League One this season and four in total in EFL.
Carlisle United who were relegated into National League last season, launched their new home kit and its another look to the past with Umbro, this time taking one of their classic Away kit looks but giving it a home kit spin as they look to bounce back to League Two this season!
You might wonder why the announcements of Liverpool’s new signings has been using last season’s Nike Kits, the new deal with Adidas does not start until 1st August, so all activity including pre-season friendlies in July will be in Nike playing and training kits.
Manchester City used their alternative shorts and socks with their Home Kit in the final World Club Cup Group game against Juventus, the navy shorts and socks give a really interesting look that I think works well with the navy details within the shirt, a look I hope we see in Premier League this season!

The 2024 / 25 League One Season came to a close on Saturday 3rd May 2025, with Birmingham City securing the title with a record breaking 111 Points and Wrexham’s rise through the leagues making it three promotions in a row as runners up. Stockport County, Charlton Athletic, Wycombe Wanderers and Leyton Orient will compete in the Playoffs for the final promotion place.
I am taking my annual in depth look at the kits worn during the league stage of the season (not including Play Offs).

Kit Highlights and Summary
In 2024 / 24 League One season teams wore 95 Kits, this was an increase in the number kits compared to last season where 85 Kits were worn, as it stands this is the joint with the Championship with the fewest number of Kit Variations seen this season.
The most worn Kit in the League was Bolton Wanderers who wore their Home Kit in 37 times, wearing in it’s default look 36 times and with away shorts once, for an all white look. Peterborough United also wore their Home Kit 36 Kits, but did not wear any variations of their Home Kit.
Lincoln City wore change kits in all 23 Away games in their League One Campaign, wearing their all white Away Kit 10 times, their all black 3rd Kit 5 times and “Mash Ups” of these two kits in another 8 games!
For the second season in a row Charlton Athletic wore their change kits in 22 of their 23 away games, the only game which they wore their Home Kit away from The Valley was the game against Cambridge United on 12th April 2025.
Northampton Town, also matched this record of 22 of their 23 games in changes kit, their only use of Home Kit in an Away game was also at Cambridge United, on 29th March 2025.
Blackpool were another team on the road not to use their default Home Kit, wearing All Tangerine (using their 3rd shorts) when in their Home Kit away from Bloomfield Road
Bristol Rovers wore three variations of their Away kit, each one a different pair of socks. Home, Away and 3rd socks all used!
Huddersfield Town provided some interesting Kit Usage this season, however it was not them directly.. there was eight teams that had to use alternative socks when playing at Huddersfield (who use Black socks with their Home Kit), Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Bristol Rovers (see above), Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City, Peterborough United, Wigan Athletic and Wrexham all used alternative socks.
Wrexham wore their Away at Home against Crawley Town on 21st September, this was to remember the 266 men who lost their lives in the Gresford Colliery Disaster on September 22, 1934.
There were some examples of Charity Kit Usage in League One this season.
Lincoln City, had the only dedicated Charity Kit worn on 25th January 2025.
Mansfield Town kept their tradition for support raise awareness for World Down’s Syndrome Day by wearing their Away socks with their Home Kit on 8th April 2025.
Stevenage wore their Charity 3rd Kit at Home on 18th April, they had worn this Kit on two previous occasions but this was the only time it was worn at Home.

Kit Highlights and Summary
In 2023/24 League One season teams wore 85 Kits, this was a decrease in the number kits compared to last season where 102 Kits were worn, as it stands this is the joint with the Championship with the fewest number of Kit Variations seen this season. It was also the only League that had clubs with just two kit variations used, the Home Kit and Away Kit.
The single most worn Kit in the League was from Bristol Rovers who wore their Home Kit in 37 of 46 games, only wearing their away strip twice in the final 22 games of the season.
Cambridge United were one of six teams that wore five different kit variations this season, the most in League One however they were the only club to do this with just Home and Away Kits, wearing three different variations of their Home Kit..! Using this variations meant that they used their Home Kit 40 times out of the 46 games, alternative amber socks were used both Home and Away to create alternative kit variations.
The two clubs to wear just two kits this season in both EFL and Premier League were in League One, they were:
Carlisle United, who wore their Home Kit 36 times and Away Kit 10 times.
Fleetwood Town, who wore their Home Kit 34 times and Away Kit 12 times.
Charlton Athletic wore their change kits (and variations of them) in 22 of their 23 away games, the only game which they wore their Home Kit away from The Valley was the game against Reading on 10th February 2024.
There were instances of clubs wearing change kits in Home Games this season, with five clubs changing from their default home kit.
Bristol Rovers wore a 140th Anniversary Celebration Kit at Home to Cheltenham Town.
Cheltenham Town wore a charity 3rd Kit against Shrewsbury Town.
Exeter City wore their 3rd Kit at Home against Leyton Orient to celebrate 20 years of their Fan Trust Ownership.
Leyton Orient themselves wore their away kit at home against Barnsley, this was due to Barnsley’s white Away kit being damaged in a Bus Fire in the weeks before their fixture, so it agreed that the home team would change to their Away kit to also avoid any colourblind kit clashes.
Stevenage wore their charity 3rd kit at home against Burton Albion.

Kit Highlights and Summary
In 2022/23 League One teams wore 102 Kits, this was an increase in the number kits compared to last season where 94 Kits were worn, the 102 Kits were the most worn in an EFL League this season. All teams wore a minimum of 3 kits with only 3 teams in just home and away kits each of these team wore at least one kit variation of their home kit which gives us some different looks through out the season.
Bristol Rovers had a couple of Kit Tales this season, the first being in their game against Exeter City on 29th December when as the Home Kit they supported The Shelter “No Home Kit” campaign by wearing their Away shirt with Home Shorts and Socks, however they changed shirts at half time to return to their home shirt and ended the game in their full home kit, giving us the only kit variation to be used for half a game!
This half time change led to a run of 18 games, from 29th December 2022 to 22nd April where their only wore their Home Kit, this 124 day run was the longest run of just one kit being used in the English Leagues this season.
Morecambe used 4 Home Kit looks through the season, they used two different looks in home games with their traditional red shirts and white shorts paired with both black (default) and white socks. The other variations used on the road used red shorts with both pairs of socks.
There was only one special kit used in League One and that was Barnsley, who wore a “Red Out” shirt that was to support their “Together Red” campaign which was to help raise awareness Barnsley’s no-tolerance message of discrimination of any kind, ensuring Oakwell is a safe place for all.
Kit sustainability is a topic that has been raised a lot of the past season, so I wanted to call out the many teams in League One that used kits in the 2022/23 season that have been from the previous season… 8 teams re-used 11 kits in total for a second season
Accrington Stanley – Home, Away and 3rd kits were from last season!
Bolton Wanderers – 3rd Kit was last season’s away
Bristol Rovers – 3rd Kit was last season’s away
Exeter City – Away and 3rd kits were from last season
Forest Green Rovers – Home kit from last season
Port Vale – 3rd Kit was last season’s away
Sheffield Wednesday – 3rd kit was last season’s away
Wycombe Wanderers – 3rd kit was last season’s away
Two of these teams left it late to use their 3rd Kits, with Sheffield Wedsnesday using their’s in their penultimate league game and Wycombe Wanderers using theirs in the final game of the season both teams had only used Home and Away Kits up till that point!
Wycombe Wanderes were also part of one of my favourite “Kit Match Ups” of the season, when they played Bristol Rovers on 26th December 2022, giving us the unusual kit site of two quartered shirts playing against each other, and what a sight it was… perfectly balanced kits and works so well in humble opinion!
My final thought of 2022/23 League One season is with the Champions Plymouth Argyle… their away kit this season which pays homage to the kit worn when they played in Playoff Final at Wembley in 1996. This kit is my favourite kit in English football this season, its design, use of the club’s traditional colours and overall balance is a stand out kit from Puma, so my congratulations to The Pilgrims not only for the return to The Championship but doing it in the one of the best kits of the recent years… (please keep it for another year!!)

Kit Highlights and Summary
In 2021/22 League One teams wore 94 Kits, this was a reduction in the number kits compared to last season where 98 Kits were worn. There were 9 teams that wore just home and away kits which was the most in the English Top Four Divisions, however each of these team wore at least one kit variation which gives us some different looks through out the season.
Wycombe Wanderers wore a special kit in their against Plymouth Argyle on 15th April 2022, the kit was in the colours of Ukraine and were auctioned off after the game to raise money for charties supporting those impacted by the situation.
There were some teams that wore change kits at home for a various reasons, some took part in The Shelter “No Home Kit” campaign, wearing change kits at home to highlight those people are homeless and raise money for the charity and other to offer support to Ukraine.
Bolton Wanderers in away kit at home to Morecambe
Doncaster Rovers in 3rd Kit at home to Wigan Athletic
Sunderland at home to Crewe Alexander in their away kit
Wycombe Wanderers wore four different kits through out the season and between 2nd April and 15th April wore these four kits in four games in 13 days.
Ipswich Town wore their home kit for their first 13 games of the season, it was only in their 13th game where they deviated from their first choice home kit, wearing all blue against Portsmouth, the went on to use five different kit variations. Ipswich Town also doned all blue in their game against Lincoln City, who wore their yellow 3rd kit in supprt of the People of Ukraine
Plymouth Argyle used change kits in 18 of their 23 away games, wearing their away kit 16 time which is the most of any team in The League, this may be surprising as they are the only team with a green home kit in the league but given there are 10 teams with elements of red in the home kit, this supports those colourblind supporters and viewers.

Kit Highlights and Summary
League One teams used 98 Kits through out 2020/21 season, this was the lowest amount of kits worn in the Top Four Leagues in England, it also saw a more classic look for teams in terms of kit usage, 7 teams only had Home and Away kits (Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion, Fleetwood Town, Gillingham, Shrewsbury Town, Sunderland and Swindon Town).
Lincoln City did not wear their full home kit in an away game, the only game they wore their Home Kit was at Plymouth Argyle and was worn with 3rd shorts (white).
Bristol Rovers wore their away kit home against Shrewsbury Town when the away team wore their all white away kit.
Doncaster Rovers worn a 3rd Kit at Home against Hull City, this kit was commerate the career of James Coppinger, who has spent 17 years at the club and made nearly 700 appearences for them. The player himself designing the kit with his sons to celebrate his time with club.
Accrington Stanley, who wore 6 kit variations in total wore 5 different kits in 5 games (Match 25 to Match 29) – All White (Away variation), Black / White / White (3rd), All Red (Home), White / Black / White (Away), Black / Black / White (3rd variation).
Oxford United, who wore the most kit variations in the league with 9 different kits used, started the season with 5 different kits in their first 5 games… this became 6 kits in 8 games and 7 in 16 games, 8 in 19 games and they wore their 9th variation in their 38th game.
There were some classic kit mash ups in League One in 20/21…
Gillingham at Portsmouth…
Swindon Town again at Portsmouth
