Champions League 25 / 26: Match 1, Kit Review

The revamped Champions League format is now in it’s second season, and this is also the second season we will review the kits worn in each Matchweek, much like the Premier League Kit Reviews.

And here we go…. just as last season’s competition, the first round of fixtures were played over three days, 16th to 18th September 2025.

The current Kit Overview for Kits worn by The Champions League Teams.

This gives 107 of the 108 Kits of the 36 Teams, but there will be more thanks to a 4th Kits / Cup Kits that we are likely to see in use over the coming months!

Match 1 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 36

New Kits this Matchweek

As the first week of the Competition, all 36 kits are being used for the first time!

Kit Highlights

Arsenal wore an alternative silver shorts and socks for their game at Athletic Bilbao, not a unique look for the club as it was reminiscent to one worn by the Gunners in 2002 when they visited AS Roma, thanks to our friend Denis at Museum of Jerserys for calling this out.

Juventus wore their new 3rd Kit in their home game against Borussia Dortmund, this also meant the Dortmund (wearing their Cup Kit, which has become the norm for European Games) wore alternative yellow shorts, a look they did not use until the knock phase of the competition last season.

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their campaign in their traditional European “All White” look, which we are expecting to see in all home games this season in the competition.

Bayern Munich wore their Home Kit in the Champions League for the first since Semi Final of 23 / 24 season, having worn 3rd Kit in majority of their games last season. Given that the home kit of 2023 / 24 season was the white shirt with red sleeves, this is the first time they have been in all red since the 22 / 23 competition, 883 days in total.

Eintracht Frankfurt are one of the teams wearing a “Cup Kit” during this season’s competition with an all black kit acting as their first choice look.

Napoli will not be wearing their wonderful 3rd kit in the Champions League this season (the love for this kit was discussed in the latest Episode of The Football Kit Podcast), instead they have a European Away and 3rd Kits, with the all navy 3rd kit being worn at Manchester City.

My favourite Kit Match of the week was the game between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, the new Liverpool Adidas Home Kit is really delivering in its look (especially in long sleeve), and one of the best examples of the T90 3rd Kits from Nike on show together, it was always going to be this game!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen the following kits…

  • 19 Home Kits
  • 4 Away Kits
  • 6 3rd Kits
  • 2 “Cup” Kit

Kit Variations seen this week

  • Union Saint-Gilloise – Home, alternative yellow shorts
  • Arsenal – Away, alternative silver shorts & socks
  • Borussia Dortmund – Cup, alternative yellow shorts
  • Sporting CP – Home, with white shorts

Kit Highlights:

Looking at some of my favourite Kit highlights of the competition so far…

There were two teams that wore five different Kit variations in their eight games.

Feyenoord wore Home Kit and two variations of Away and 3rd Kits.

Sparta Prague wore Home Kit, Away Kit and three different variations of their 3rd Kit.

Borussia Dortmund (Cup Kit) and Real Madrid were the only two teams to wear a single Kit Look through this phase of the competition.

During Match 7, there was a rare kit site of 4th Kit v 4th Kit with PSG and Manchester City’s game. PSG also played all eight of their games in Blue, six in Home Kit and their last two in their 4th Kit.

Bayern Munich did not wear their Home Kit during this stage of the competition, wearing their 3rd Kit in seven games and Away just once!

Slovan Bratislava were the only team to wear four distinct kits, wearing Home, Away, 3rd and a Cup Kit in their eight games!

Girona gave us one of the more interesting Kit Mash ups, with 3rd Kit (Pink) being worn with Away socks (Navy) when they played at PSV in Match 4.

AC Milan wore their 3rd Kit in three of their four Home games, only wearing their Home Kit once in the opening round of fixtures.

That’s it, this the first Champions League “League” Phase has now been completed! Links to all the weekly reports can be found above.

Champions League: Match 7, Kit Review

The Champions League is back for 2025 and we are now in uncharted territory, its January, it’s Champions League Group Phase Match 7… the penultimate round of fixtures in the revamped competition!

The current Kit Overview for Kits worn by The Champions League Teams.

This gives 107 of the 108 Kits of the 36 Teams, (111 including Cup and 4th Kits).

Match 7 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 96 (+5 from Match 6)

New Kits this Matchweek

There were five new Kits on show this week

Juventus in yellow shorts and socks with their Away Kit

RB Leipzig in Away Kit.

PSG in their 4th Kit for the first time, this is Jordan inspired kit.

RB Salzburg in Away kit, this was the first time in a change kit and was worn with alternative navy socks (default being light blue).

Inter Milan in their 3rd Kit for the first time in the competition.

Kit Highlights

AC Milan wore their 3rd Kit at Home again, this was the 3rd time this was worn at Home in their four games at The San Siro.

Bayern Munich another team that have heavily used their 3rd Kit in the competition this season, this was the 6th time it what used in their 7 games, but also was this a clash with Feyenoord, although given Bayern’s Kit choices this year this was likely the best option without mashing kits up.

PSG and Manchester City gave us a unique 4th Kit v 4th Kit look, now it can be argued that neither kit was really needed but as a Kit Geek, I loved it… something different and something new for me!

My favourite Kit Match of the week was the game between Slovan Bratislava and Stuttgart, mainly due this being a Cup Kit v Cup Kit, and giving us a nice looking kit match up.

Kit Stats

Overall this Matchweek we have seen the following kits…

  • Home Kits – 17
  • Away Kits – 9
  • 3rd Kits – 5
  • “Cup” Kits – 3
  • 4th Kits – 2

There were 2 Kit Variations used this week

  • Juventus – Away Kit with alternative yellow shorts and socks
  • RB Salzburg – Away with alternative navy socks

There are still 4 Clubs in total that have worn the same kit in their opening six fixtures of the competition (Borussia Dortmund, Celtic, Arsenal, Real Madrid).

There are 16 teams that have used Home (or Cup), Away and 3rd Kits, plus Manchester City wearing Home, 3rd and 4th Kits!

Slovan Bratislava wore their fourth different kit of the competition, after using their registered Home Kit for the first time in the Champions League this season, after previously wearing a special cup kit, away and 3rd kits!

Bologna wore their 3rd Kit at Home against Lille, the 3rd time they have worn the kit this season in the competition but the first time at home!

Although not an actual kit from the game, but as part of the build up to the game between AS Monaco and Benfica this wonderful graphic was created which incorparates the kits worn in the match as F1 Overalls.

Five Teams in total have worn four different kit looks in their opening five games.

My favourite Kit Match of the week was the game between Manchester City and Feyenoord, not only a cracking game on the pitch but the two kits used worked well together and I do enjoy constrasting socks, so both team in this look is a win for me!

Kit Highlights

Stuttgart followed a tradition we often see with German teams in Europe and used a dedicated European Kit for the first time, with gold details and paired with red socks (different from their Away Kit socks).

On Tuesday 1st October, out of the 18 teams that played 7 in total wore the same kit as in Match 1, with 6 teams playing against each other, with RB Salzburg v Brest, Arsenal v PSG and Borussia Dortmund v Celtic, the only other team that wore the same kit was Inter Milan!

Slovan Bratislava wore their 3rd Kit at Home against Manchester City, who also wore their 3rd Kit so the rare sight of a 3rd Kit v 3rd Kit match up!

BSC Young Boys wore a change kit in The Champions League for the first time since 8th December 2021 when they played Manchester United, they used their all white Away against Barcelona on Tuesday 1st October.

Bayern Munich have yet to wear their Home Kit in the competition, having worn 3rd Kit in first game and now Away kit at Aston Villa.

Bologna launched their 3rd Kit on Monday and debuted it in their game against Liverpool.

One of the Kits of the season, Juventus’ 3rd Kit was used for “The Old Lady’s” visit to RB Leipzig, the second of the possible four Trefiol Kits to used in the Competition, and it looks great in action.

My favourite Kit Match of the week was the game between PSV and Sporting CB, a classic look for PSV Eindhoven and the Sporting Kit being something a little different produced a nice Kit Match up with a real European feel… loved it!

Kit Stats

Overall this Matchweek we have seen the following kits…

  • 21 Home Kits
  • 4 Away Kits

Champions League: Match 1, Kit Review

This season see a new format of the Champions League, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and create a Matchweek Kit Review, much like my Premier League ones… so here we are, looking at Match 1 of The Champions League, 2024/25 Edition!

The current Kit Overview for Kits worn by The Champions League Teams.

This gives 103 of the 108 Kits of the 36 Teams, but there will be more thanks to a 4th Kits or Cup Kits that we are likely to see in use over the coming months!

Match 1 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 36

New Kits this Matchweek

As the first week of the Competition, all 36 kits are being used for the first time!

Kit Highlights

Due to some of the regional country laws around sponsorship gave some slightly different Kit Looks..

Aston Villa wore a Charity Sponsor (one they have used before) in their game at BSC Young Boys, their first game in Europe’s Premier Competition for over 40 years!

Stuttgart wore their Away Kit at Real Madrid, but went with no sponsor to give them a plan chest band on the kit, for a classic look!

Bayern Munich followed their recent trend of wearing change kits in Home European games, by wearing their “Trefoil” Clad 3rd Kit in the emphatic 9-2 victory against Dinamo Zagreb.

As pointed out by our friend Denis of Museum of Jerseys all 11 of Liverpool players were in Green, although different shades in their game at AC Milan.

Manchester City debuted their 4th Kit in their Home game against …., released just last week they were quick to use the kit (even before using their 3rd kit) and it was in a Home fixture, is this a trend we will see for the rest of the campaign for The English Champions!

Only three teams wore Home Kits in Away games, Inter Milan at Manchester City (possible only due to 4th kit being worn at Home), Girona at PSG and Arsenal at Atalanta.

Borussia Dortmund wore their “Cup Kit” at Club Brugge, so could be argued it was actually four teams!

My favourite Kit Match of the week was the game between AS Monaco and Barcelona, a nice Kit Match up with two good kits for these teams this season..!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen the following kits…

  • 20 Home Kits
  • 8 Away Kits
  • 6 3rd Kits
  • 1 4th Kit
  • 1 “Cup” Kit

Kit Variations seen this week

  • Juventus – Home, with alternative white shorts & socks
  • Aston Villa – 3rd, with alternative white shorts
  • Bayer Leverkusen – 3rd, with alternative white shorts & socks
